sales for July fell 0.5% worldwide to 466,100 cars, but things are not completely bad for the company because from January to July of this year sales are 3.38 million cars, up 3.7% over the same period last year.
“The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has produced a solid performance so far in a market situation that remains challenging. Given that the uncertain economic conditions will continue over the coming months, we are keeping a very close eye on developments in global automotive markets”, said Christian Klingler, Volkswagen's head of sales.
Volkswagen Cars sold 980,000 cars in Europe from January to July, down 6.8% from the previous year. German sales were down 9.1% from January to July to 328,400 cars.
The Asia-Pacific region continues to perform strongly for Volkswagen Cars. It sold 1.48 million cars there from January to July, up 17% from the previous year. Of those, 1.36 million were sold in China, up 18.9% from the previous year. Sales in India fell to 36,900 cars in the period, down 11.1%.
Sales in the Americas are also mixed for Volkswagen Cars. Sales in North America were up 359,300 cars there from January to July, up 3.6%. Of those 242,600 cars were sold in the United States, down 1.3%.
Sales in South America fell 11.3% from January to July to 419,100 cars. Of those 314,900 were sold in Brazil, down 12.8%.
