Volkswagen is teasing the new mid-size sedan model (codename NMS) that will be unveiled at next week’s North American International Auto Show, in Detroit. The German had already confirmed that it was developing a new model to replace the Passat in the North American market. The world debut will take place on Monday.
The teaser can be seen when entering Volkswagen of America's website. Visitors are greeted with an image of a sedan model covered in a white sheet. The image comes with a note that says “The sleeker, roomier, all-new, German-engineered 2012 ______. Fill the blank on January 10th.”
For more details on the NMS everyone will have to wait for the press conference in Detroit, but some information is already known about the model. It will be produced at the firm's new U.S. factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee and will be cheaper than the current Passat, the model the NMS will be replacing in the North American market.
The new model from Volkswagen of America will be launched to rival with the Honda Accord and the Hyundai Sonata and will reach the markets in the third quarter of 2011 as a 2012 model year.
