Volkswagen has revealed ahead of tomorrow's press days at the Paris Motor Show the ID electric concept. This electric car will be the starting point for a new all-electric model to be launched by the German brand by 2020.
The all-electric hatchback has a completely different design from the remaining Volkswagen models focusing in reducing the drag coefficient. This will be base of a new electric model range to be launched by the German brand.
The ID concept features smooth body panels and flat door handles and because it doesn't need to feed no engine, the front grille has disappeared. It was substituted by a short, steeply angeled bonnet that links to the long windscreen. The design is complemented by a panoramic roof that goes all the way until the extended roof spoiler which adds to the aerodynamic efficiency.
Volkswagen has equipped the ID concept with a 170 electric motor, which according to the brand offers an range of 400 and 600 kilometres on a single battery charge, depending on driving. The ID concept is also available with an autonomous driving mode, which should be available in production models from 2025.
The new electric concept is the first to be built based on VW’s Modular Electric Drive.
