Volkswagen unveils new Beetle

Volkswagen has unveiled today the new Beetle on the eve of its official debut at the Shanghai Motor Show. The new generation Beetle makes a new re-interpretation of the old Beetle as it had already occured with the first generation which was discontinued in 2010 after selling more than 1 million units worldwide.

The new generation Beetle brings the car closer to the orginal vehicle and to Ragster concept model, first shown in 2005. It is longer (by 152mm), wider (by 84mm) and with a 12mm lower roofline than the car it replaces. Its wheelbase, front and rear track are also longer.

This really isn't interesting to me. Still looks the same. How long will they milk this design? It took the 7 years for this?

People Beetle can't be chenged, like Mini and Fiat 500. They must to look like the older versions.

Not the problem of the retro design, it's just that it looks utterly boring. I thought they would have learned their lesson with the new Mini and Fiat 500, but nooooo....

I know, it looks like they slapped the face of a Golf and said, "Good work people, the brand new Golf, wait, Beetle."

It's no Golf, although it hints at the scirocco's beveled front bumper. But mostly it looks like the previous "new beetle" and the PT Cruiser had a one night stand in Vegas...

Wow, never thought of that one. Why don't they just stuff a W12 in the thing like they did in the Golf?
