Volvo begin production of C30 Electric

Volvo has begun building its new range of electric vehicles called the C30 Electric.

The C30 Electric is a fully-electric car which Volvo claim will have an operating range of up to 150 kilometres per charge. A full recharge is said to take 7 hours through a regular household socket. Performance figures are a top speed of 130 km/h and a 0-50 km/h acceleration time of four seconds.

The company will build around 250 C30’s by the end of 2012, which it will begin leasing to customers in European countries including Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway after the summer. The vehicle will be built in Ghent and then transferred to Göteborg for installation of the motor, batteries and other model-specific electronics.

Volvo says that the C30 Electric is just one part of an ambitious electrification strategy which we will see more of in the upcoming years.
