Volvo S60 Polestar Goes Into Production with 350hp

has gone into production but will only be sold in Australia for now.

Australia is being used as a test market for a limited run of the car, and they will go on sale in June 2013. Polestar is interested in adding it to other markets depending on sales in Australia and response from other markets.

The S60 Polestar gets a variety of upgrades that significantly upgrade the S60’s performance. The 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine gets a bigger turbo, larger intercooler, new engine mapping and a race exhaust to boost power to 345hp and 369lb-ft of torque. It comes with a six-speed automatic transmission and Haldex all-wheel drive system. Acceleration to 100km/h takes 4.9 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. The upgrades to the engine mapping also add launch control, faster shifts and more power to the rear from the all-wheel drive system.

The suspension gets 2-way adjustable Öhlins shocks, 80% stiffer springs, thicker stabilizer bars, a carbon fiber strut tower brace, and 19in wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

The body gets a new front splitter, rear spoiler, rear diffuser and black mirror caps. There are Polestar branded trim pieces on the door trim, badges, gearshift, and treadplates.

The S60 Polestar is heavily inspired by the car raced in the Swedish Touring Car Championship, and the road version has been developed across Europe.

"We have taken the best bits of the standard S60 T6 and our S60 Polestar Concept Car, creating a vehicle that puts a smile on your face when you drive it over your favorite twisty road. At the same time, it is more than capable of everyday driving, too,” said Robert Dahlgren, Volvo factory driver.
