planned to build 1,000 for 2013 of its V60 Plug-in Hybrid models initially to gauge customer reaction. The cars have not even arrived in showrooms yet, and they are all already sold out. Volvo says that it will build 5,000 for 2014 to cope with demand.

The 2013 V60 Plug-in Hybrid will only be available in the Pure Limited edition in Electric Silver paint with 17in wheels and gloss black trim. In hybrid mode, the cars use 1.8l/100km and emit 48g/km of CO2. The driver can select to drive in pure electric mode for 50km or force both the diesel engine and electric motor to work together to accelerate the car to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid also gets a unique dashboard with gauges for the battery charge, range, etc.

The V60 Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a five-cylinder 2.4-liter diesel engine that powers the front wheels and an electric motor in the rear axle with 70hp. It uses a six-speed automatic, and the separation between the front engine and rear motor mean that the car has on-demand all-wheel drive.
