has temporarily stopped work at its Torslanda factory due to low automotive demand in Europe. The work stoppage will be in effect from October 29 to November 2.

Employees will be paid while the factory is closed. Volvo says that it has no plans to fire any workers at Torslanda.

Volvo already slowed the production pace at Torslanda from 57 cars to 50 cars per hour on October 1.

"Europe is the main market for Volvo Car Corporation and the continued recession is naturally affecting the demand for our cars. Against this background, it is essential for us to continue to use the built-in flexibility we have within our manufacturing system," says Jan Gurander, CFO, acting president and CEO of Volvo.

The Torslanda factory is among Volvo's oldest and was orginally opened in 1964. The first model built there was a 122S122 SVolvo 122 SSweden, 1965 > present2 photos
