crossover will look like when it goes on sale in 2014.

Like the next XC90, the Concept XC Coupe uses Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture that will be used on all of the company’s next generation medium and large cars.

The concept is meant to show the next generation of Volvo design, and the concept is how to integrate safety technology, low emissions and a “Scandinavian active lifestyle” into one vehicle.

The look of the car from the teaser images is an evolution of Volvo’s current crossovers. The front has a single frame grill with two-tier headlights. The lines of the fenders and windshield are softer than previous Volvos. It looks more like a high-riding car than an off-roader. The roof has an integrated storage area mounted to the roof rails, and the concept is a coupe, rather than a four-door, like the production version will be. Of the teaser images, the rear is by far the most striking. The taillights are an evolution of Volvo’s current design, but made of two sets of LEDs on each side. The design makes it appear like the LEDs are hidden under the rear glass. It also has exhausts integrated into the lower bumper.

Volvo is promising more details about the concept in the coming weeks.
