The Asian Le Mans Series ends its inaugural season on Sunday

This is the end of the Weekend Motorsports Preview at least for this year. There are two races this weekend, and they are both finales. The Asian Le Mans Series ends its inaugural season, and the Australian V8 Supercar Championship comes to an end as well.

The column will probably resume in January with the Monte Carlo Rally and 24 Hours of Daytona.

If you have enjoyed the column this year, please say so in the comments, and if there are any series we should start covering next year or any we do not need to both with, speak your mind in the comments as well.

Asian Le Mans Series

The Asian Le Mans Series finishes its first year with a three-hour race at Sepang in Malaysia. The Three Hours of Sepang uses the 3.44-mile (5.543km), 15-corner layout of the track.

Qualifying will be held from 10:45am to 11:15am local time on Saturday, December 7, and the race will begin at 3:00pm local time on Sunday, December 8.

The race has 14 entries - three in LMP2, two in GTE, six in GTC and three in GTC Am.

Going into the final race, the LMP2 championship is wide open with four points separating KCMG and OAK Racing. As the only GTE team to race in all four races, Team Taisan Ken Endless is guaranteed the GTE championship. AF Corse has already won the GTC title, but four teams are still racing for second place, and there is no championship in the GTE Am category this year.

The Asian Le Mans Series announced that it is adding an additional prototype class for the 2014 season. FIA CN prototypes will be allowed entry. The class allows multiple customer chassis from builders like Ligier, Norma and Pescarolo, but all of the cars must use 2.0-liter four-cylinder HondaHondaHondaJapan, 1948 > present102 models

The winning driver in each race will net 150 points.

Jamie Whincup is leading the championship going into the final races with 2,815 points. Craig Lowndes is in second with 2,795 points. Mark Winterbottom has 2,691 points, and Will Davison has 2,592 points.
