As we first reported back on May 5th, Zagoto has officially confirmed plans for a very limited production run of the Viper based Zagato TZ3 Stradale.
The “production” TZ3 Stradale will use many of the driveline and mechanical components from the very capable Dodge Viper ACR, a limited edition track day special. Looking at the Viper ACR’s performance numbers gives something of an indication of what the TZ3 Stradale could be like: 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, 11.6 second quarter mile at 124 mph, 1.1g on the skid pad and 60-0 in 100 feet. The high-down force Viper ACR was drag-limited to about 170 mph; “normal” (non-ACR) Viper coupes could reach 200 mph. Not a bad starting point for the Zagato TZ3 Stradale.
The TZ3 Stradale will wear a strong, lightweight, very sexy carbon-fiber body, looking more like it’s corporate relative the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione than a Viper in an Armani suit. The TZ3 Stradale is largely a carry over from it’s one-of-one TZ3 Corsa cousin in terms of general design language, however the rear-end is a bit of a departure from the TZ3 Corsa, looking a bit like the magnificent Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe. Zagato calls it a “Kamm-tail” (K-tail) or truncated tail and is a nod to the “Coda Tronca” Zagoto’s of the 1960’s. It’s said to be more than just handsome; it’s also aerodynamically effieient.
As we reported, power will be based on the Viper’s 600 horsepower 8.4-liter V10. However, Zagato TZ3 Stradale horsepower numbers were not announced. Interestingly, in 2007 Mopar, Chrysler’s in-house high performance division displayed a 675 horsepower (503 kW) prototype Viper Coupe at the North American International Autoshow. Meaning, Zagato TZ3 Stradale performance could potentially be considerably higher than the Viper on which it’s based.
Only ten examples of the very limited production Zagato TZ3 Stradale will be produced. We’re told the first three are already spoken for: one to American collector Eric King, one is headed to Japan and the other to a European collector. That leaves six for rest of us so get your order in now. No word on price but once again, if you have to ask...
