In June 2011 BMW presented a new M5 based on the F10 chassis.
The sedan is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 4.4 liter V8 producing 560hp and 502 lb/ft of torque. BMW claims a top speed of 305 km/h and a 0-100km/h time of 4.4 seconds, which is less 0.3 seconds compared to the previous M5. The turbocharged engine also performs better in terms of efficiency, using 9.9l/100km in the EU combined cycle, an improvement by 30%.
The 2011 M5 comes with a seven-speed, dual clutch transmission and an electronically-controlled, limted-slip differential, the Active-M Differential. This allows for 100% of the power to be routed to either rear wheel as necessary.
In terms of design, the car shows the typical M5 features like a front bumper with larger air intakes, side gills and rear diffuser with quad exhaust tips. As it lacks the power bulge from the current M3, the M5 has more of a refined appearance.
