*Update: BMW's European press office got back to us to explain the problem more. The stop sale affects all 2013 model year M5 and M6s worldwide that were built between July 2012 and September 2012. BMW is in the process of retrofitting these cars with an improved oil pump.

has issued a stop sales order for the two cars due to a faulty oil pump.
According to BMW, 2013 M5, M6 and M6 ConvertiblesBMW M6 ConvertibleGermany, 2012 > present13 photos
are equipped with an oil pump that could suddenly stop operating causing an immediate loss of oil pressure and irreparable engine damage. Owners who already have these cars are being advised not to drive them, and BMW dealers in the US may not sell the cars until the problem is solved.
We have contacted BMW about whether this issue also affects Europe, and what it is doing to fix it.
