Chevrolet announced the debut of the Chevrolet Trax compact SUV at the Paris Motor Show, September 27th, 2012.
The Trax is the cheaper European platform-mate to the Opel Mokka and the American Buick Encore. At market-launch, the Trax remains a European-only vehicle.
The Trax has three engines available at launch. There is a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 140hp and 200Nm of torque, a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder and a 1.7-liter diesel four-cylinder with 130hp and 300Nm of torque. All of them come standard with a six-speed manual, but a six-speed automatic is available on either the 1.4 or 1.7.
Like the Mokka, the Trax has available on-demand all-wheel drive. During most times, the car is purely front-wheel drive. Only when wheels begin to slip, is power sent to the rear, up to 50%. The all-wheel drive system is only available on the 1.4 and 1.7 engines.
The Trax comes with stability control, hill start assist, traction control, anti-lock brakes and electronic brake distribution. LT trim cars get trailer stability assist, hill descent control.
