and the American Buick Encore. At the moment, though, the Trax will be a European-only vehicle.
"Trax will deliver on all of the traditional Chevrolet values and more. It is a modern, highly versatile yet fuel-efficient small SUV, offering car-like handling and all-wheel drive," said Susan Docherty, President and Managing Director of Chevrolet Europe.
The Trax will have three engines available at launch. There will be a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 140hp and 200Nm of torque, a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder and a 1.7-liter diesel four-cylinder with 130hp and 300Nm of torque. All of them will come standard with a six-speed manual, but a six-speed automatic will be available on either the 1.4 or 1.7.
Like the Mokka, the Trax will have available on-demand all-wheel drive. During most times, the car will be purely front-wheel drive. Only when wheels begin to slip, is power sent to the rear, up to 50%. The all-wheel drive system is only available on the 1.4 and 1.7 engines.
The Trax will come with stability control, hill start assist, traction control, anti-lock brakes and electronic brake distribution. LT trim cars get trailer stability assist, hill descent control.
