In July 2011 Land Rover presented the Discovery 4 for the 2012 model year.
The top-of-the-range engine has seen a power increase to 256 hp, up from 245 hp, while the 211 hp engine had its Co2 emissions reduced from 244 g/Km to 224 g/Km. The TDV6 engine has a lower fuel consumption, torque was raised to 520 Nm in the standard engine and 600 Nm with the higher powered STDV6. The 5.0l V8 engine is both EU5 and US ULEV2 compliant.
In 2012, the Discovery 4 features a new 8 speed gearbox, contributing to better economy and performance. It is available in EU5 compliant markets and uses the same style of rotary gear selector and paddles as the new Jaguar XJ. Special characteristic of the 8 speed gearbox is its ability to skip up to 6 gear ratios in one go.
