The Ferrari 340/375 MM Berlinetta with a body by Pininfarina was launched in 1953 and was sold for €9,856,000 ($12.75 million) at auction in Switzerland in 2013.
It is one of two cars of its type that were built on Ferrari 340 chassis to 375 specifications, which gave the cars a shorter wheelbase and a 4.1-liter V12. The car raced in the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans at the hands of Mike Hawthorne and Nino Farina, but was disqualified on lap 12. After Le Mans, Ferrari rebuilt the engine to 4.5-liters of displacement with 340hp. After a DNF at the 24 Hours of Spa, the car was sold to a privateer driver and changed hands many times in the ensuing decades.
It won Best in Class at the 1976 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
It is the only known Ferrari raced by three World Sports Car Champions during its competitive career - Alberto Ascari, Dr. Nino Farina, and Mike Hawthorn.
