The new model is the successor of the 599 and with Ferrari saying that the car delivers unprecedented performance from a new engine, combined with innovative design that redefines classic themes along with extreme aerodynamics.

According to Ferrari the F12berlinetta is the most powerful and high-performance Ferrari road car ever launched. It is powered by a 6262cc 65° V12 engine that delivers 740 hp, translating into a specific output of 118 hp/l. As for torque it reaches a peak of 690 Nm, 80 per cent of which is already available at just 2,500 rpm and provides strong acceleration all the way up to the 8,700 rpm limit. Ferrari has combined the new V12 engine with the F1 dual-clutch transmission, which has closer gear ratios developed specifically for this car’s performance.

As a result the new Prancing Horse 12-cylinder accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 8.5 seconds. Ferrari states that the F12berlinetta is able to reach a top-speed above the 340km/h.

The Ferrari F12berlinetta revolutionises the traditional transaxle layout of the Italian brand. While shortening the wheelbase, Ferrari has lowered the engine, dashboard and seats in the chassis. Thanks to a new layout of the rear suspension and gearbox Ferrari was able to reduce the volume of the car smaller. With the new V12 model Ferrari has developed a very compact car with a lower centre of gravity that is further back in the chassis, and with a high level of aerodynamic efficiency.

An all-new spaceframe chassis and bodyshell has been developed by Scaglietti. It uses 12 different kinds of alloys, some of which have been used here for the first time in the automotive sector, and also employs new assembly and joining techniques. Thanks to it Ferrari engineers have managed to increase by 20 per cent the sturctural rigidity, while reducing weight to 1525kg (70 kg less than the previous V12 coupé).

The design of the F12berlinetta is the result of yet another partnership between Ferrari Styling Centre and Pininfarina

Early years

When it opened, the Scuderia Ferrari (Italian for “Ferrari Stable”) wasn’t meant to produce road cars, but rather for sponsoring amateur drivers and already made racing cars. It was actually supposed to be the first motorsport team independent from factory, although related to Alfa Romeo. Enzo Ferrari always worked for the Alfa Romeo company, in different job positions, until around 1940. Then he quit because that a...  more
