The Fiat 132 was introduced in 1972, replacing the 125 and 125 Special 1600 cc in the Fiat range. The model was offered in three versions: The Standard and Special 1600 cc (98 bhp) and a Special 1800 cc (105 bhp) variant.
The Standard and Special were differentiated by their bodywok on the interior and exterior, such as the front grille, wheel hub covers and chrome details on the Special variants. The Special also offered options, such as an electronic ignition system, 5-speed gearbox, automatic transmission and limited slip diferential. The Special was also the first Fiat production saloon with an external rear view mirror.
Innovations in terms of mechanics on the 132, were its 4-cylinder engine with twin cam based on that of the 124 Sport and 125 models. Also the suspension and steering had been revised.
