The mid-sized family model Ford Cortina was built by Ford of Britain for two whole decades, between 1962 and 1982. Throughout its lifespan, the Cortina has had five generations, even though the last one was officially known as the Cortina 80. Ford of Britain wanted the Cortina model to be a mass-market vehicle and indeed millions of copies were sold, which made this car one of the most frequently seen on the British roads.
Ford named this model Cortina after an Italian ski resort that goes by the name Cortina d’Ampezzo and where the 1956 Winter Olympics had taken place.
