FSM was a Polish factory created as a result of an agreement between FSO and Fiat during the 1970's. Such agreement predicted the construction of the Polski Fiat 126p, a brand new model and a polish version of the Fiat 126. In order to carry on with the project a new manufacturing plant was inaugurated in Tychy, in that same plant the FSO Syrena was produced in the beginning of the 1980's. After producing actively from 1972 to 1991, the company was privatised and acquired by the Fiat Group. The company name was then changed to Fiat Auto Poland and continued to produce Fiat models.
