and is recognizable by the extended wheel arches, the large front spoiler and for what is the largest wing ever to be placed on the backside of the model. However, the roof, the front doors and the rear door are shared with the standard Civic.

The style is intimately linked to performance and the Type R concept displays those credentials, rather than hiding them. Many of the aspects of style are functional, rather than being mere aesthetic props, and according to Honda it was demonstrated by the feedback received from track tests conducted in Nürgburgring. Reducing drag, adding downforce to the vehicle to make it grip to the road, optimizing cooling and airflow were key points that the design team had to focus on.

The front spoiler is designed to add the downforce, while the vertical spoilers on the sides and the cut shape of the front bumper help to reduce drag and control the flow of air in the surrounding area of the front tires. The red band that runs along the front spoiler helps to accentuate the low and wide stance of the Type R.

Furthermore, the new design of the headlights, with LED daytime running lamps, and the horizontal foglights give a touch of strong character to the front of the Type R Concept. The front grille, divided into two halves, one upper and one lower, was enlarged and the bonnet vents help to cool the more powerful engine better. Front and rear fenders were widened to accommodate the wide tires, and have integrated air outlets to optimize the air flow.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of this concept is its rear spoiler with integrated LED taillights, which helps the futuristic look of the Type R.
