The Infiniti unveiled the new rival to BMW's 3 Series in the premium segment, the Q50. The model debuts the new naming scheme of the Japanese brand, and is described by the president of the brand, Johan de Nysschen, as a model that could change the segment of sports sedans.
For the U.S. market the new Q50 is sold with two V6 engines, a 3.7 and a 3.5 with 328hp associated with a hybrid system. For other markets, including Europe, Infiniti will launch two more engines, two engines, probably the Mercedes four-cylinder, as petrol and as diesel. These two new options are presented in Geneva.
The model has a rear-wheel drive configuration, the power reaches the wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The Infiniti Q50 premiers some new advanced technologies from the Japanese brand. One is the Direct Adaptive Steering system that directly controls the angle of the tires and contributes to the steering faster than the mechanical system.
Another technological first is the advanced system of lane departure warning. This technology monitors any departure from the lane and compensates for unintended changes in direction caused by wind or road surface. According to Infiniti this system reduces driver fatigue because it reduces the number of required actions on the steering wheel.
Finally, the Infiniti can be set to up to four different conductors through the "i-Keys". This technology allows the car to recognize four types of different settings in terms of driving position, temperature, sound, navigation, and information on driving.

The Q50L was developed especially for the Chinese market. Thanks to the longer wheelbase, the Infiniti version offers more space and comfort for rear passengers.
In a clear response to the demand of the Chinese market, Infiniti increased the wheelbase of the Q50L by 48mm. The model is sold exclusively in China, a market that has already forced, in 2012, the launch of the Q70L.
The car is marketed in Comfort, Elegant, Sports, Luxury and Luxury Sports versions, which enables a wide range of customization options.
The Q50L is powered by Infiniti's first gasoline in line four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that delivers 211hp and 350Nm of torque. Thanks to the seven-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode the engine offers a combination of performance and efficiency.
In terms of technology the Q50L keeps the same bases of the standard model, with the first ever steer-by-wire system (Direct Adaptative Direction), a dual touch screen with Infiniti InTouch HCI system, the Active Lane Control system and Bose sound system. To increase comfort and meet the demands of Chinese customers, Infiniti introduced in the Q50L an adaptable in-car light system, rear window sunshade and electronic anti-glare side mirrors.
The Q50L is the first Infiniti model to be produced internally for the Chinese market.
