The E-type 3.8 came in two body designs: the OTS (Open Two Seater) and the FHC (Fixed Head Coupe). The car was popular right from its presentation in March of 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show. The 3.8 is the most sought after of all E-type versions. The first 500 cars built had flat floors and external hood latches. Because of their rarity, they are the most valuable.

This version has a 3.8 litre 6 cylinder XK6 engine from Jaguar XK150S. The E-type reaches almost 240 km/h.

The sleek body of the E-type was designed by Malcolm Sayer, an aerodynamics engineer. As a sports car, the performance had priority over comfort. The bucket seats aren’t very comfortable and the distinctive aluminium dashboard can be distractive when the sun is hitting. However, these are the things considered to make the “true” E-type and that make this version so valuable.

Thanks to completely new stylish lines, high performance and low price for its type of model – when compared to rival brands –, the E-Type was greatly well received and sales success shows it. Overall, Jaguar released 3 generations of this sports car, commonly designated as Series 1, 2 and 3, as well as a couple of limited edition versions.
