The Land Rover Freelander is a compact crossover SUV manufactured since 1997. It became Europe's best-selling four-wheel drive model until 2002. The Freelander 2 was introduced in 2006, marketed as LR2 in North America. It uses a monocoque (unibody) structure, unlike traditional SUVs built with a body-on-frame design.

The second generation Freelander offers an all-new engine range, featuring transversely-mounted 3.2 litre I6 engine of the Volvo SI6 series. Interior equipment includes an Alpine 440 watt 14 speaker surround sound audio and touch navigation screen options. The Freelander TD4_e version is the first SUV in Britain using stop-start technology it became available in 2009 on Freelander 2 TD4 models. For the 2011 model year, the Freelander is available with optional 2 wheel drive (eD4), an upgraded diesel engine available with either 150PS or 190PS, revised exterior with new front bumper and new colour schemes.
