Lexus has debuted its Europe-only IS300h at the Geneva Motor Show 2013 that goes on sale later in the year 2013. It is the first time that Lexus has offered a hybrid model of the IS.
The new IS was introduced at the North American International Auto Show in January 2013, but this is the first time that the hybrid model has been shown. Europe gets either the IS250 with a 2.5-liter V6 or the IS300h with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with a hybrid powertrain.
The hybrid has a total output of 223hp thanks to its 143hp electric motor and 181hp internal combustion engine. Power for the hybrid is routed to the rear wheels via a CVT that gets the car to 100km/h in 8.3 seconds and to a max speed of 200km/h. It uses 4.3l/100km and emits 99g/km of CO2.
The IS hybrid stores its battery beneath the luggage area and does not diminish the size of the cargo area compared to the standard car. Because Lexus wants the IS hybrid to have a sporty demeanor, Lexus fitted Active Sound Control that pipes artificial engine sound into the cabin.
Cars comes with a drive mode selector that augments throttle mapping and has eco, normal and two sport modes. Hybrids also get an EV mode.
Versions of the IS in Europe are also available in F Sport trim. Ticking the option adds Ultrasonic Blue and White Nova to the color options, a sport body kit, 18in wheels, digital instrument panel inspired by the LFA, sport seats, sport steering wheel in leather, black seat stitching, aluminum pedals and aluminum scuff plates. The F Sport package also opens up Dark Rose leather as an interior color option. The package retunes the power steering and adds optional adaptive suspension as well.
