Lexus unveiled its mid-size premium crossover NX at the 2014 Beijing International Auto Show.
The NX represents Lexus' first entry into the mid-size SUV market and was launched to compete with Audi and BMW.
The design of the production NX was strongly influenced by the two LF-NX concept vehicles shown at 2013's Frankfurt and Tokyo Motor Shows. Comparing with both concepts the final design has been simplified, however it still looks bold, with angular lines, fleeing from the conservative looks of other models in the class.
On the outside, the NX features an enlarged version of Lexus’sspindle grille flanked by slim headlights and strips of LED daytime running lights. The wheel arches are filled with 17-inch alloys in regular versions and 18-inch wheels in F Sport versions. A heavily sculpted bonnet, a sloping roofline and the angular rear look are some of the other exterior design features.
The interior of the new NX SUV has been inspired on a sports car. It features a sculpted dash panel, at the same time complementing the angular styling of the exterior. The cabin includes a thick-rimmed leather-wrapped steering wheel, a full-leather finish for F Sport models, and a large central screen out of the dashboard for the infotainment display.
The Lexus NX introduces a highly efficient petrol-electric hybrid in NX 300h, a Lexus first 2.0-litre petrol turbo in NX 200t, and a naturally aspirated variant of the same engine in NX 200. Each engine is available in both front and all-wheel drive versions.
Other technological features of the new NX include a Lexus-first Wireless Charging Tray to enable a portable device to be charged, the new Lexus Remote Touch Interface with a touch pad, Panoramic View Monitor and a Multi-information Display including a G sensor and boost meter, Head-Up Display, Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
