Lola Cars International Ltd (or Lola Racing Cars) was founded by Eric Broadley, in Huntingdon, England, in 1958, to build sports cars. The company commenced by manufacturing small sports cars, but soon became one of the most famous racing cars builders world wide. The company suffered severe financial losses in 1997 following its first works entry in Formula One which Lola had resisted for many years limiting its activities in Formula One to building cars to other competitors. Lola was bought by Martin Birrane in 1998. Presently Lola is developing a car to compete at the Formula One World Championship 2010.
