One day maybe Volkswagen will finally complete its purchase of Porsche, but Porsche seems to be going about things like it will stay independent forever. On October 20, it broke ground on an expansion of its factory in Leipzig. The new factory will produce Porsche's coming compact SUV- the Cajun. The Cayenne and Panamera are already produced at the Leipzig plant.
The expansion will cost Porsche €500 million and add 1,000 new jobs to the company. Porsche also promises that it will be cutting-edge in regards to sustainability.
Porsche built the original Leipzig plant in 2002 to construct the Cayenne.
Porsche says that it intends the Cajun to be an entry point for younger buyers into the Porsche brand. It plans to begin producing the Cajun in late 2013.
