Renault unveiled a new concept that serves as a preview of the future model that will relaunch the historic French brand
Alpine on the market next year. The Alpine Vision was presented at an event in Monte Carlo in order to evoke the successes of the brand in the Monte Carlo Rally, however, the presentation to the public will be held at this year's Geneva Motor Show .
According to Renault, the Alpine Vision is very close to the production version of the two-seat mid-engine sports car the brand will launch next year. The revival of the historic brand will be part of a long-term investment and won't stop with the sports coupe, as it is already planned the arrival of an SUV model in 2018. The Alpine sports car will be presented this year with the arrival on the market set for the second quarter of 2017.
With the exception of the rear view mirrors and wheels, according to Carlos Goshn, CEO of Renault, the Alpine Vision is very close to the production model that will be released next year. The vehicle is described as a sporty high-performance, stylish and lightweight vehicle focused to driving pleasure. In terms of design there are clear references to the
Alpine A110 and other Alpine models, such as the central circular headlights with the cross graphism and the lines on the bonnet.
Other highlights regarding include the absence of rear spoiler, since engineers chose to add the main aerodynamic characteristics under the car. The simplicity and driving pleasure are the main focus of the Alpine Vision. As the concepts previously presented, the Vision does not have any Renault badges, but gets the bespoke one from Alpine. Unlike the
Celebration, more focused on competition features, the Alpine Vision is more focused on the road.
The
Audi TT-style digital panel is one of the main features of the Vision's cabin. The vehicle includes a series of luxurious materials, including leather, aluminum and carbon fiber. Many sports features were also included such as the bucket seats, harness seat belts and buckles in aluminum.
In terms of powertrian there are still few confirmations from Renault's side, however, the sports car arriving in 2017 should be equipped with a 1.8 liter engine based on the 1.6 liter turbo used in the Clio RS. The power should be around 250hp, with a performance version that might be able to reach 300hp. The rear-wheel drive vehicle will be combined with an eoght-speed automatic dual clutch. An acceleration from 0 to 100km/h below 4.5 seconds has already been promised by Alpine.
The new Alpine will be produced in Renault's factory in Dieppe, the plant that housed the original production of Alpine.
