over the car’s three generations in the last 17 years.

When it was introduced, the A3 was Audi’s first foray into the entry-level, luxury segment. It is now on sale in 117 countries. Last year, Audi made 152,993 of them.

“This success is backed by a strong team and an efficient production system. With the Audi A3, we have created a new brand segment – we have been setting standards in the compact class with innovative technology and first-class quality for 17 years now,” said Dr. Frank Dreves, Audi head of production.

The 3 millionth car was a white A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI Quattro.

The A3 Sportback is the bestselling version of the car. Audi builds 700 of them a day at the Ingolstadt factory. The next addition to the model family will be the A3 Sedan, and all of them will be built in Hungary. Audi will begin building them for the local market in China in early 2014.
