is the first automaker in the world and among the first ten companies to be awarded with the Carbon Trust Water Standard following a 35.7% water use reduction at the Crewe factory.

The Carbon Trust Water Standard is a water use reduction certificate. To receive it, a company has to have accurate water use, input and output data. The organization performs an independent assessment that compares water use on two separate occasions.

The changes to the factory included improvements to the paint shop and updates to the water treatment facilities. It also repaired underground leaks in the water main and fire suppression system. The bathrooms received automatic faucets and low-flow toilets.

“Bentley works hard to continuously improve its overall environmental performance and this achievement recognizes our positive commitment to minimizing our water footprint. We have further measures planned to increase this reduction,” said Michael Straughan, head of manufacturing at Bentley.

The Crewe factory also recently installed the UK’s largest roof-mounted solar panel array that reduces CO2 emissions by 2,500 metric tons a year.
