has been teased since last winter and even longer if you consider the concept, but it will finally hit showrooms in the United Stated in January for a base price of $75,995.

The ELR is an adaptation of the technology in the Chevrolet VoltVoltChevrolet VoltUnited States of America, 2011 > present3 photos
range-extended hybrid into a luxury coupe. They will be built together at the same Michigan factory and share a platform.

“The ELR is a unique blend of dramatic design with electric vehicle technology capable of total range in excess of 300 miles,” said Bob Ferguson, senior vice president Global Cadillac.

Dealers will be required to be specially trained to sell and service the ELR because it is so different from the rest of the Cadillac lineup. Buyers will also get an individual concierge who will answer any question that the buyer has about the car and schedule service.

Power comes from the same 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine and 16.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack as the Volt. It gives the car a 35-mile pure EV driving range and 300-mile total range. The powertrain has four driving modes – the normal Tour mode, more responsive Sport mode, Mountain mode that increases regeneration and Hold mode that forces it to either use electric or gas power.

To justify the price that could buy two Volts, the ELR comes standard with full LED front and rear lights, Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system with navigation, an 8in full-color capacitive touchscreen, real wood trim, lane departure warning, forward collision alert and Regen on Demand that uses the paddles on the steering wheel to force the electricity regeneration system to activate.
