Chevrolet will reveal its all-new Malibu at the upcoming 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, while simultaneously streaming the moment on the Chevrolet Facebook page.
Little is known about the new range as of yet, except that it will be powered solely by four-cylinder engines coupled with six-speed transmissions. Chevrolet also say the new Malibu will feature ‘European-inspired driving characteristics.’
“This Malibu takes Chevrolet’s established and award-winning nameplate to new places and introduces it to new audiences around the world. Whether the Malibu is sold in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, or Australia, it has been engineered from the ground up to meet the needs of customers around the world,” said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet.
The Malibu, which was GM’s highest selling car last year, will be the first midsize Chevrolet to be sold around the globe. Buyers in almost 100 countries will have access to the new model, with the Chinese market a particular point of interest.
“We look forward to offering the new Malibu to our customers across China. The Malibu fully embodies Chevrolet's tradition of dynamic styling, superior handling and outstanding fuel efficiency. It will address growing domestic demand in the upper-medium segment, especially among younger car buyers," said Kevin Wale, president and managing director of the GM China Group.
For those who can’t wait to see more than just the one teaser image released so far, the reveal will take place at 8:30 p.m. EDT on April 18. A twitter hashtag - #MalibuReveal - will also be in operation during the event for potential customers to ask Chevrolet staff questions about the new vehicle.
