Chevrolet testing buyers opinion with two concepts

Chevrolet is looking for its’ customers opinions and to create some discussion and, who knows, come up with new ideas the American brand has brought to NAIAS two concept coupes: the CODE 130R and the TRU 140S.

According to General Motors North America President Mark Reuss, “These two concepts interpret that vision for a new generation. We’re seeking out our newest customers’ opinions, listening to their advice, and engaging them in new ways.”

The two concepts are the result of conversations between Chevrolet and young consumers for the past year. The goal with the two new concepts is to explore the styling and functionality these customers say to look up in a car.

“Young customers tell us they want functionality with coupe-like aesthetics. Both the Code and Tru body styles resonated with this audience,” said Frank Saucedo, director of the GM North America Advanced Design studio in Los Angeles where the two concepts were developed.

The Code 130R is a four-seat coupe with a simple upright profile, painted in an all-new red metallic paint with matte anodized gold wheels. With real-wheel drive the study car received a heritage performance-inspired styling. Thanks to its front fascia, Chevrolet fender flares, straight body side and Chevy crossflag emblem, the Code 130R is able to link with Chevrolet’s performance heritage.

By balancing turbocharged performance with fuel economy, the Code 130R brings automotive electrification to the next level. The engineers behind the concept have developed with a turbocharged engine that can work simultaneously with eAssist technology. The technology shuts off the engine at stops, recaptures braking energy, while featuring smooth torque during acceleration.

Described as an “affordable exotic” four-seat sporty coupe, the Tru 140 S is the second Chevrolet concept present at NAIAS and comes with a front-wheel drive. Designers have created it with the goal of being a three-door hatchback, attractive-yet-affordable sports car.

With its all-new matte white with Chevy performance chrome wheels featuring crossflag emblems, the Tru 140S has been given a confident, exotic, expensive and fast appearance.

Direct injection and and a starter-based stop-start technology, balancing internal combustion and electrification to deliver high value and improved fuel economy are some of the technologies typically found in more expensive cars and that have been included in the Tru 140S.

That TRU140 looks really good. Can't say the same thing for the 130R...

The front fascia of the 130R is exactly what I hope the 6th gen Camaro will look like; a retro-futuristic take on the 2nd gen Camaro. And the TRU140 could be an interesting car, I think it would sell...

If that's what the new Camaro will look like, that's gonna be a pretty good looking car.

The Code 130R looks like a BMW Serie 1 Coupe with new front and back lights to me... Not a very creative design, looks more like a copy... On the contrary, I like the Tru 140S a lot more.
