to meet the challenge from the French government to launch vehicles by 2020 with consumption below 2l/100km. Citroën has revealed the C4 Cactus Airflow 2LCitroën C4 Cactus Airflo...France, 2014 > 2014 concept that will make its world debut at the Paris Motor Show.
With 865kg, 100kg less than the standard Cactus, the concept is equipped with Citroën's powertrain Hybrid Air technology similar to the one used on the Peugeot 2008 Hybrid AirPeugeot 2008 HYbrid AirFrance, 2014 > present. This powertrain combines a three-cylinder engine 1.2-liter Puretech with 82hp, an hydraulic pump and compressed air reservoir in the rear of the car. The vehicle uses an epicyclic transmission.
In addition to the advantages of using this new hybrid technology Citroen reveals that it managed to reduce the friction of the combustion engine with a new coating and the use of low-viscosity oil.
The vehicle can be driven in three different ways: air, petrol or hybrid mode.
The C4 Cactus Airflow 2L receives low rolling resistance tires developed by Michelin. The vehicle also received a number of applications with lightweight materials including aluminum, steel and carbon fiber "Airbump" panels.
The concept also gets LED headlights, replacing the lighting clusters of the production model, with a new longer spoiler placed besides the rear air extractor. The rims have shutters which close in movement and allow a reduction in airflow.
Citroën has not officially revealed performance data of the C4 Cactus Airflow 2L. However, the French brand indicates that the performance of the vehicle is very close to the Puretech 110 version of the production model. This means an acceleration from 0 to 100km/h of 9.5 seconds and a top speed of 193km/h.
More information should be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in early October.
