The Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. has announced its withdrawal from the European markets by January 2013. While ceasing sales of new cars, Daihatsu will continue to supply after-sales services to its European customers.
As reason for the step, the company names increased costs through regulations, especially regarding the rules on CO2 emissions. Another unfavourable factor is the exchange rate between the Yen and Euro, which has seen a appreciation of the former. As consequence, sales in Europe of vehicles manufactured in Japan are no longer viable for the company.
