Seems like the connection between the Fiat Group and Chrysler will be expanding in 2011, as reports indicate that Dodge will be releasing at the end of next year a model that will substitute the Caliber and be based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
Since the end of the Neon model back in 2005 Dodge has struggled to find a real contender in the compact market, and although the Caliber has been available, it has never achieved the success of the Dodge Neon.
With the Caliber packing his bags next year, according to the brand’s product planning and with no plans yet to be known about a new compact car, a Dodge version of the Giulietta seems very likely to become true.
In fact Fiat’s CEO Sergio Marchionne has already been quoted referencing the use of the sporty 2010 Giulietta in the US market as the newest sport compact from Dodge.
“The new architecture, which debuted (in Europe) with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, is the most advanced mass-produced car Fiat has ever had, and at Chrysler, Dodge will use it first,” Marchionne told analysts on a conference call on Thursday.
Revealing little about the new model, Marchionne promised fuel consumption figures of around 5.5 to 6.0 l/100km, suggesting power will come from one of Fiat's smaller-capacity MultiAir engines.
