Elton John sold most of his car collection in 2001

Singer Elton John used to have quite a collection of classic cars, but he sold away most of his collection in a 2001 Christie's auction that got rid of 28 of his cars. One of those cars is about to cross the auction block again - a 1991 Ferrari 512 TR Testarossa512 TRFerrari 512 TRItaly, 1991 > 19943 photos
. The car has covered just 2,100 miles (3380km) since new, and John only drove it 1,812 miles (2916km) before selling it. COYS will auction it on March 12.

This is the first time that the car has been for sale since John auctioned it. It sold for £98,000 in 2001, and COYS expects that it will sell for between £90,000- £110,000 (€103,000- €126,000) in the upcoming auction. The car includes a complete service history including a recent service to have the cambelts replaced and a letter of ownership from Elton John.

“This must be the lowest mileage 512 TR available on the market today, with exceptional ownership provenance. With Ferrari prices continuing to rise, this car offers the opportunity for a real blue chip investment. Unique," said Chris Routledge, managing director of COYS.

The 512TR was an improvement of the TestarosaTestarossaFerrari TestarossaItaly, 1984 > 199114 photos

. The cars had improved intake manifolds, cylinder heads and camshafts to improve power and raise the redline. They also had improved interiors with better seats and a more modern design. Period driving reviews report acceleration to 60mph in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 192mph.

The COYS auction on March 12 includes a wide variety of European classics and a surprising number of classic Italian motorcycles. The biggest seller of the show is expected to be a £210,000 (€240,000) 1969 Ferrari Dino 206 GTDino 206 GTFerrari Dino 206 GTItaly, 1968 > 19694 photos
