Fiat Uno Ends Production After 25 Years in Brazil

The second generation Uno was introduced in Europe in 1989 and went on sale in Brazil the same year. A year later, a stripped down version was added in Brazil called the Fiat Mille. On January 1, all cars in Brazil are required to come standard with airbags and antilock brakes, neither of which the Mille offer.

The Mille was slightly different from the European Uno and still had the spare tire under the clamshell hood. Since 2005, it has come with a 999cc engine that would run on gasoline or ethanol with about 75hp and 72lb-ft of torque depending on fuel used.

The final 2,000 cars will be sold as special edition called the Grazie Mille, a play on “thanks a lot” in Italian. Fiat has not said what the special edition will include, but it will likely be packed with features.

The Mille is still a popular car in Brazil because it is among the least expensive cars on sale. It outsold the regular, more expensive Uno in the country.

The tougher safety rules will also kill the Volkswagen Gol and first-gen Ford KaFord Ka Gen.1United Kingdom, 1996 > 20085 versions
