GM Adding New 10-Speed Automatic and New V6 in 2014

Both will be funded by nearly $1.3 billion in factory upgrades

will add a new 10-speed automatic transmission and new V6 engine to it range in 2014 as part of a $1.3 billion upgrade program to five factories in the United States. It will also increase production of its current six-speed automatic.

The five factories are located in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, and the investment will create about 1,000 jobs. Its factory in Flint, Michigan will get a new paint shop. The Romulus, Michigan, factory will be upgraded to build the new 10-speed automatic and build the new V6 engine. The Toledo, Ohio, transmission plant will increase capacity for the current six-speed automatic.

GM has not said what vehicles either the new transmission or V6 will be used in. The 10-speed automatic is being co-developed with Ford.
