GT Academy began on Wednesday, September 4, at Silverstone with 42 gamers from 16 countries competing for a chance to race in the FIA GT3 Championship in 2014.
This year, over 765,000 people in Europe alone raced to win the fifth season of the Nissan GT Academy. The first step was to have among the top times in the demo Gran Turismo 6 GT Academy demo. The top drivers from each country went through the European National Finals with gaming, driving, fitness and media challenges. The best 42 of them have made it to the finals and will compete on track for a week-long boot camp with former racing drivers Johnny Herbert, René Arnoux and Antonio Liuzzi and previous GT Academy winners – Lucas Ordoñez, Jann Mardenborough and Wolfgang Reip.
Of this year’s 42 competitors, there are six from France, six from Italy, six from the UK, four from Spain, two from Portugal, three from Belgium and Luxembourg, three from the Netherlands; six from Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary; and six from Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Norway.
The driving challenges will have the competitors driving the Juke NismoNissan Juke NismoJapan, 2013 > present5 photos
and 370Z NismoNissan 370Z NismoJapan, 2014 > present, and they will face fitness and mental tests.
At the end of the week, the drivers will decide who is European GT Academy Champion 2013.
The winner will immediately begin Nissan’s Driver Development Program to get the driver a racing super license in time for the 24 Hours of Dubai in January.
Gran Turismo 6 goes on sale on December 6 for the PlayStation 3.
