Although Robert Kubica’s first intentions were to still run in the 2011 season, the Pole has now informed Lotus Renault GP that he might not be totally fit in order to compete in the beginning of the 2012 season.
“Even if I’ve been working very, very hard over the course of the last few weeks, I came to the conclusion that I am not yet certain to be ready for the 2012 season. I have called the team and I have informed them of the situation. This was a difficult decision to make, but it is the most reasonable one,” explains Kubica.
Still the Pole’s recovery has been somewhat incredible as he is now able to walk freely, and move his hand and elbow. Kubica return postponing’s goal is to increase recovery time in order to return to full fitness.
The Pole added, “On a personal level, my recovery is still very encouraging and my doctors keep being impressed. I just need more time, as I want to be 100% ready before I commit to anything driving related.”
As for Lotus Renault GP, the team continues committed to help Robert Kubica to fully recover from last year’s terrible accident. For that the Pole has a test car prepared and waiting for him as well as a dedicated crew on stand-by.
“As a team and as a family, we remain 100% behind him and we’ll help as much as we can. A programme composed of simulator testing, single-seater and F1 track time is awaiting him,” explained Eric Boullier, Managing Director and Team Principal.
Lotus Renault GP will now start searching for a substitute driver to be ready for the winter testing for the 2012 season.
