that raced in the Can-Am racing series in the US in the 60s and 70s. The problem is the GT3 Can-Am no longer meets FIA GT3 rules and is not legal to race in the class. McLaren means the car to be the ultimate expression of a racing MP4-12C. It has more downforce and more horsepower than any previous version.
The Can-Am Edition uses the same twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 as the rest of the MP4-12C line, but power has been boosted to 630hp, 13hp more than the current road carMcLaren MP4-12CUnited Kingdom, 2012 > present544 photos
, but 137hp more than the racecar. It weighs 1,200kg, about 200kg less than the road car.
The car is painted McLaren Orange, which the racecars wore, and features a mix of matte black and carbon fiber trim. It also gets a different bodykit that that increases downforce 30% over the racecar. The changes include a new carbon fiber front splitter, dive planes, larger wing and diffuser.
The transmission, brakes and wheels are the same as the racecar.
In a pleasant upgrade for a racecar, the interior has air conditioning.
McLaren says that the Can-Am Edition is a one-off concept for now, but it brought the car to gauge interest among the wealthy car enthusiasts there for a McLaren that could only compete at track days.Formatted and completed text.
