Mercedes-Benz's performance arm,
AMG, unveiled the new
GT R, a vehicle developed at the Nürburgring circuit and was conceived as a road version of the
GT3. With 585hp from a 4.0 liter V8 biturbo engine the brand indicates that this is its most advanced road car ever.
With market launch announced for November the GT R was inspired by the GT3 racing car that won the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers says that with the GT R the brand has reached a new performance driving level by combining the dynamics of the GT3 and usability of the
GT.
The GT R is to date the most powerful version of the AMG sports car thanks to the M177 V8 engine. The 4.0 liter engine has been updated with new turbochargers, plus a new engine mapping and a higher compression ratio. Compared to the
GT S AMG was able to increase the output up to 75hp and the torque by 50Nm to a total of 700Nm. Combined with an automatic dual-clutch seven-speed the GT R can reach 100km/h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 318km/h.
In terms of design, compared to other production version of the AMG GT the main difference is the adoption of the Panamericana grille of the GT3, a feature that should be adopted by future models of the brand. The introduction of a carbonfiber rear wing is another major modification.
