More efficient Astra now offered

Opel has just released a more economic and environmentally friendly variant of the Astra.

The 2.0 Astra CDTI is now offered with the ecoFLEX Technology package which features Start/Stop functionality. Opel say this package, which can be fitted as a 300 euro option to the manual version of the Astra, reduces fuel consumption and emissions by up to 13 percent in the urban cycle. This brings total fuel consumption down to 4.5 l/100km and emissions to 119 g/km CO2 in the combined cycle while retaining power outputs of 118 kW and 350 Nm of torque.

The ecoFLEX package also includes what Opel calls CleanTech Combustion Technology. This system adjusts fuel injection to the combustion process in real time which allows the engine to run more quietly and efficiently.

Opel also say that they are planning to have Start/Stop systems on 34 car/engine combinations by 2012.

Fuel consumption has improved remarkably in the past few years. Thumbs up for this.
