The British automaker Morgan has presented the first image of its newest model, the EvaGT. Set to be presented for the first time at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in Carmel, California, USA on the 15th August 2010, the new four seater Coupe takes its inspiration from the British sports saloons of the early 1950’s.
The EvaGT will be powered by a BMW 3 litre straight six mono twin turbo with direct petrol injection with a maximum output of 306 PS and 400nm of torque. Fitted with a 6 speed sport automatic or 6 speed manual gearbox, the new Morgan model will be able to reach a top speed of 273 km/h and accelerate from 0 up to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. In terms of efficiency, the EvaGT should have a combined fuel consumption of 7.06 litres/100km, which represente CO2 emissions of 200 g/km.
As Morgan was one of the first car companies to see the advantage of a bonded aluminium chassis to give rigidity but also to save weight, the EvaGT makes full use of clever technologies developed to manufacture a lightweight car. It is fitted with a further developed version of the bonded aluminium chassis of the Morgan Aero SuperSports and is compliant with European and US safety approvals.
The Morgan EvaGT body has been sculpted by Morgan Design focusing on natural materials and understanding their unique technical properties. To ensure accuracy the design and manufacture have been conceived using computer technology, with the parts being hand finished to make sure they feel as good as they look. According to the British brand “the new Morgan EvaGT represents a philosophy of lightweight luxury that embraces authenticity, sustainability and innovation achieving its final result through the process of skilled craftsmanship”.
With a first limited series of 100 cars, the Morgan EvaGT should start being produced in mid 2012, with the British brand promising that “the ‘on-road’ price will be competitive for a car of this class”. Morgan will start receiving orders and will request for a deposit of £5000 from prospective clients for an allocated build slot.
