Based on the MQB platform, the Touran fits between the Golf SV and the Sharan seven seater. The design received an update in order to bring it visually closer to the rest of the current Volkswagen model range. The interior is also completely new and a more premium feel was adopted as well as a maximization of the interior space.
The new Touran is 12cm longer than the vehicle it replaces, while the wheelbase was lengthened by 11cm. The interior receives a completely new seat configuration, which allows the seats to be folded down to create a flat floor. The model will be available with five and seven-seat versions and Volkswagen states that the first one features the largest load capacity in its class.
The model receives a wide range of safety equipment, including post-collision automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and pre-crash pro-active passenger protection. The infotainment system has also been updated and allows integration with Android and Apple smartphones.
The new Touran will be available with a range of three petrol and three diesel engines. The petrol engines have outputs of 110, 150 and 180hp, while the diesel versions outputs are 110, 150 and 190hp. All versions are available as standard with Stop/Start technology and brake energy regeneration.
