taxi in New York on October 18, and it served its first passenger on October 23 by taking a person from JFK International Airport to the intersection of 13th Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan.

“We are excited to see the NV200T now carrying passengers around Manhattan, and look forward to bringing the same NV200T experience to drivers and passengers in new markets outside New York,” said Andy Palmer, Nissan Executive Vice President.

van and includes a transparent roof meant to give passengers a view of city skylines, opening side windows, independent rear air conditioning, an active carbon headliner to absorb odors, added interior lighting and rear charging ports with 12v and USB chargers. There is also an optional wheelchair accessibility system that lifts wheelchairs into the van.

For drivers, it has six-way adjustable seats made from a material that promotes airflow, USB radio input, standard navigation, rearview camera and intercom.

It is the first New York cab to be fully crash tested with all of the added taxi equipment installed. Over the NV200 van, it has separate front and rear seat airbags and seat-mounted airbags for the occupants. It also has standard traction control.

A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is the only engine option, and it comes with a 150,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Eight Nissan dealerships around New York City are selling NV200T taxis, and prices start at $29,700.

Nissan’s next bespoke taxi project is to offer a new alternative to London’s ‘black cabs’ in 2014 that has been modified to meet the city’s specific legal requirements. It will seat five people and have even lower CO2 output.
