will take a second consecutive win in the New Energy Rallye Monte-Carlo that begins on March 21. The race is specifically for alternative-fueled cars, and the Ampera will compete in the electric car category.

Opel will have eight Amperas entered into the rally.

The New Energy Rally Monte-Carlo is not like a WRC rally where cars are competing to reach the finish line in the lowest time. Instead, the cars are challenged to reach the end of the stage within a given time, and the cars are competing for the lowest fuel consumption and lowest emissions. Vehicles must emit less than 115g/km of CO2 to compete in the rally.

“The successes last year show the Ampera’s superiority over the competition under extreme conditions as well as in everyday use,” says Dr. Thomas Sedran, Opel head of business operations.

Last year, the Ampera took four of the top ten spots in the rally.

This is the fourteenth year that the Automobilclub Monaco has organized the Rallye Monte-Carlo des Énergies Nouvelles. The rally runs three days through Monaco and the surrounding roads.
